Choose the Right Audio Cable

For a standard microphone connection: Start with XLR male to XLR female. Choose Canare Star Quad XLR when your installation needs additional rejection of electromagnetic interference.

For a balanced 1/4-inch connection: Choose TRS-to-TRS when both pieces of equipment have compatible balanced TRS jacks. A 1/4-inch TS or mono connector is a different connection; check your equipment before ordering.

For XLR-to-RCA equipment: Match the XLR connector gender to the equipment socket. RCA is typically unbalanced, so check the equipment wiring and signal requirements when connecting it to an XLR device.

For a commercial plenum installation: Review the required cable marking and project specifications before selecting the plenum XLR assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between standard XLR and Star Quad XLR?

Both are options for balanced microphone connections. The Canare L-4E6S Star Quad construction is designed for greater rejection of electromagnetically induced noise, which can be helpful around stage lighting and other electrical equipment.

Are XLR-to-RCA cables balanced?

An XLR connector can carry a balanced signal, but an RCA connection is normally unbalanced. The finished connection depends on the equipment and wiring; choose the correct cable for the source and destination.
