How a BNC Male-to-Female Extension Cable Works
Most standard SDI cables have a male BNC connector at both ends. Joining two of them normally requires a separate female-to-female barrel coupler. An AV-Cables extension cable builds the female connection directly into the cable assembly for a cleaner, more convenient connection.

Maximum usable distance depends on the video format, the combined length of the original cable and extension, connector condition, connected equipment and installation environment.
Remember to Calculate the Complete Signal Path
The extension becomes part of the total cable run. For example, adding a 25-foot extension to a 100-foot cable creates an approximately 125-foot signal path. Confirm that the combined length is appropriate for the required SDI data rate—especially for 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI.

What is a BNC male-to-female extension cable?It is a passive 75-ohm coaxial assembly with a BNC male connector on one end and a female BNC jack on the other. The female end connects directly to the male connector on an existing SDI cable.
