50 Ohm vs. 75 Ohm BNC Cable
Choose RG-58 when your equipment specifies a 50-ohm connection, typically for RF, radio, antenna and test applications. For SDI video, word clock and other 75-ohm broadcast signals, use a true 75-ohm broadcast BNC cable. Matching the cable and connector impedance to the equipment helps minimize reflections and signal loss.

Is RG-58 a 50-ohm cable?Yes. Belden 9201 is an RG58/U-type coaxial cable designed for compatible 50-ohm RF, radio, antenna, test and instrumentation systems.
Can I use RG-58 for SDI video?RG-58 is intended for 50-ohm applications. Professional SDI video normally requires true 75-ohm cable and connectors, so choose an SDI-rated BNC assembly instead.
What is the difference between RG-58 and RG-223?RG-58 is a flexible general-purpose 50-ohm cable. RG-223 uses double shielding and is often selected when additional shielding is preferred.
Are custom lengths or multi-channel assemblies available?Yes. AV-Cables can manufacture custom lengths, connector configurations, matching sets and multi-channel 50-ohm cable looms.
